about

King James is performed by the diamond family archive, thirty pounds of bone and a loose collection of singers and musicians set between the Cornish coast and Berlin. The two principal characters, formed the project as a distraction from, and interpretation of, their irreversibly turbulent romantic lives. Both men finding a strange solace in exploring what might be described as disproportionately religious upbringings. Something they had left in their most remote pasts. The religious aspect of the songs is confused, unhappy, accusing and frequently misinterpreted. Although, there is room for celebration….

"King James is dusty new hymnal folk collaboration between the Diamond Family Archive and Thirty Pounds of Bone. Recorded and rehearsed underneath a medieval castle in deepest Devon their songs combine influences of folk, gospel and elements of Hank Williams in a strangely uplifting fashion, telling stories of the weak, shamed and the downtrodden. Banjos pick, harmoniums and organs drone mournfully and many voices combine in harmony – its safe to say no-one else is making music quite like this at the moment." (IC) The Source.
